Visitors Visa

The Canadian government permits foreign nationals to visit Canada on a temporary basis for various purposes, such as family visits, holidays, tourism, business trips, meetings, or conferences. A visit visa, which is generally valid for up to six months, is required unless you are a citizen of a visa-exempt country, allowing entry for up to 180 days.

Family Sponsorship

You may include your spouse or common-law partner and dependent children under 19 years of age in your Canada visit visa application.

Since August 2014, regulations specify that only financially dependent children under 19 years can be included in the application. However, exceptions are made for children with certain physical or mental disabilities, where age restrictions do not apply.

Parents and Grandparents

Parents and grandparents cannot be included in a standard visit visa application. Instead, they must be sponsored separately by a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.

To sponsor your parents or grandparents for permanent residency, you must sign a sponsorship agreement that includes the following commitments:

  • The sponsor will provide financial support for the parent(s) or grandparent(s).

  • The sponsored individuals will make reasonable efforts to support themselves financially if they are able to do so.

Other Eligible Relatives

You may apply for a visit visa on behalf of orphaned relatives under 19 years of age, including: Brothers, Sisters, Nephews, Nieces, Grandchildren

The eligibility criteria and restrictions for sponsoring these relatives are similar to those for parents and grandparents.

Additionally, you may sponsor a child under 19 years of age whom you plan to adopt, provided all international adoption regulations and conditions are met.

  • Single Entry

A single entry visit visa option allows one from a foreign country to enter Canada for a single time only.

However, a multiple entry visa permits foreign nationals to enter and leave Canada multiple times as often as they want and as long as the visa validity is there. Applicants are automatically classified whether to choose for multiple entry visas or only to be issued single entry visas under unique circumstances.

Business Visa

Business visitors to Canada, unless from visa-exempt countries, are required to obtain a visitor visa, also known as a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV), to enter the country. A business visitor visa is distinct from a Canadian work permit. Business visitors are not authorized to work in Canada. These visas are designed for short-term business activities such as attending industry conferences, conducting site visits, or receiving training.

If you intend to work in Canada, you may need to apply for a work permit, especially if you are being transferred by your company or are employed by a Canadian organization. In such cases, you must obtain a work permit before starting any work.

Your visa application must be processed through the Canadian visa office responsible for your country of residence or citizenship. There is no special visa specifically for business visitors; they must follow the standard visitor visa application process, indicating their purpose is for international business activities.

Some business visitors may be visa-exempt if they are from visa-exempt countries. In such cases, they may only need an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) if they are traveling to Canada by air.

Business visitors can bring family members with them, but each family member must submit their own separate visitor visa application. You can stay in Canada for the duration of your visitor visa’s validity, provided you comply with its terms.

When arriving at the port of entry in Canada, you must present proof of the business activity you will be engaging in during your stay.
