Eligibility for Australia’s Student Visa (Subclass 500)

To be eligible for an Australian Student Visa, you must fulfill the following conditions:

  1. Valid Passport: Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay in Australia.
  2. Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE): Submit a statement confirming your intention to stay temporarily in Australia for the purpose of study.
  3. Proof of Enrollment: Provide evidence of your acceptance into a full-time course in Australia, such as your Electronic Confirmation of Enrollment (eCoE).
  4. Proof of Financial Capacity: Demonstrate that you have sufficient funds to cover tuition fees, living expenses, and travel costs.
  5. English Language Proficiency: Provide evidence of your English skills through a recognized language test like IELTS, TOEFL, or PTE Academic.
  6. Health Insurance: Obtain Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for yourself and any accompanying family members for the duration of your studies.
  7. Statement of Purpose: A personal statement explaining why you wish to study in Australia and your future career goals.
  8. Airfare: Provide proof of return or onward travel plans.

Dependents and Family Members

Your immediate family members (spouse, unmarried dependent children under 18 years of age) can join you in Australia on a Dependent Visa. To include them in your application, you will need to provide:

  • Marriage or birth certificates as proof of relationship.
  • Evidence of financial support for your dependents.

Financial Requirements for International Students

As part of your visa application, you must demonstrate that you have sufficient funds to cover your stay in Australia. The estimated living costs for 2019 are:

Student Visa Conditions

  2. Course Provider: You must remain enrolled with the same education provider for the first six months of your course, or for the duration of your course if it is less than six months.
  3. Change of Provider: If you wish to change your education provider, you must notify your current provider within 7 days after receiving your Electronic Confirmation of Enrollment (eCoE).
  4. Welfare and Accommodation: If you are under 18, you need written approval from your education provider before changing your address or welfare arrangements in Australia.
