    New Zealand’s Education System
Education in New Zealand is primarily the responsibility of the state, and it’s compulsory for children between the ages of five and 15. The New Zealand Qualifications Framework (NZQF) regulates post-compulsory education, ensuring that qualifications are recognized nationally and internationally. The NZQF covers schools, vocational education, and higher education, providing a clear and unified structure for qualifications.

The New Zealand Qualifications Framework (NZQF)

  • The NZQF is a national system that outlines the hierarchy of qualifications in New Zealand. It ensures that qualifications are recognized by employers and educational institutions worldwide. Few qualifications outside the NZQF are accepted for employment or entry into tertiary study, with some exceptions, such as IT certifications and the International Baccalaureate.

Work Opportunities During and After Studies

  • New Zealand offers great work opportunities for students during their studies and after graduation.

    • During your studies:
As a student visa holder, you and your dependent family members (except those on a research-based Master’s or Doctoral visa) can work up to 20 hours per week during term time. During scheduled breaks or holidays, you can work unlimited hours.
The proposed changes would allow a maximum of 40 hours per fortnight during the course term, with a fortnight defined as a 14-day period starting on a Monday.

    • Post-study:
After completing your studies, New Zealand offers pathways for students to stay and gain work experience. With a Post-Study Work Visa, you can apply for jobs in your field of study and further enhance your career prospects in New Zealand.
