Types of USA Visit Visas

USA Visit Visas fall under the category of non-immigrant visas and are divided into two main types:

  1. B1 Visa: For business-related visits, such as attending meetings, contract discussions, seminars, or international conferences for a short duration.

  2. B2 Visa: For tourism, visiting family and friends, and medical treatment.

To apply for a USA Visit Visa, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Clear Purpose of Visit: You must have a defined and legitimate reason for your visit.

  • Financial Proof: Provide bank statements or financial documents to prove you can cover your expenses during the stay.

  • Intent to Return: Show strong ties to your home country to ensure you will return after your visit.

  • Health and Character Requirements: Meet the health and good character requirements as stipulated by the U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act (INA).

How to Apply for a USA Visit Visa

How to Apply
Documents Required
Interview Process
  • At the U.S. Embassy or Consulate, a consular officer will interview you to determine your eligibility for the visa. A digital fingerprint scan will be taken as part of the process.

Some applications may require additional administrative processing, which can take additional time after the interview.

  • Before your interview, prepare and gather the following documents:

    1. Valid Passport:

      • Must be valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay.

      • Each applicant (including family members) needs a separate application and passport (dependents fall under the M2 category).

    2. Form DS-160 Confirmation Page.

    3. Visa Application Fee Receipt (if applicable).

    4. Photograph:

      • Upload a photo while completing Form DS-160.

      • If the upload fails, bring a printed photo that meets specified guidelines.

    5. Form I-20:

      • Certificate of Eligibility for Non-immigrant Student Status (F-1 or M-1).

      • Signed by both you and your school official.

      • Spouses and children (dependents) will receive individual I-20 forms if they plan to join you.

    6. Proof of English Proficiency:

      • Certification of Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or equivalent test results.

    7. Standardized Test Scores:

      • SAT, ACT, or other tests required by your university.

  • During your visa interview at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate:

    • Be prepared to provide additional documents, such as:

      • Academic Records: Transcripts, diplomas, degrees, or certificates.

      • Standardized Test Scores: As required by your institution.

      • Proof of Intent: Evidence of plans to return home after completing your studies.

      • Financial Proof: Documentation showing you can cover educational, living, and travel expenses.

    • A consular officer will assess your eligibility for the visa.

    • Biometric Scans: Fingerprints and biometrics will be collected during the process.

After the interview, you may be informed of additional administrative processing requirements.

A visa allows you to travel to a U.S. port-of-entry (such as an airport) and request permission to enter the United States. However, a visa does not guarantee entry. The decision to grant entry is made by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials.

If granted entry, you will receive an admission stamp or a Form I-94 (Arrival/Departure Record) specifying the duration of your stay.
